Michael is one of Denmark's most successful cyclists in Danish history. At the age of 8 he was a member of Holbaek Cycle ring where he started his career. Michael Rasmussen’s ambitions have always been high, and in 1999 he won the World Championships in mountain bike.
His most notable victories were four stages of the Tour de France, one stage of the Vuelta a Espana and a win on the Italian classic Giro del’Emilia. In 2005 and 2006 he won the best climber classification in Tour de France as the only Dane ever.
In the 2007 Tour de France, Michael Rasmussen was wearing the yellow jersey and was on his way to winning however Alberto Contador ended up winning the Tour that year.
During his career he raced for Mix-TrodatResch (2001) and team CSC-Tiscali (2002) before he ended his career at Rabobank in 2007.
